The main characteristics of coupe grade saffron is that the stigmas are all totally red and it´s this part of the saffron thread that increases its colouring power and gives it its strong aroma.
It is derived from the dried stigmas of the saffron crocus and has a deep auburn colour and sweet flavour. The stigmas can only be picked by hand and its estimated that it takes 250,000 stigmas to make just half a kilo of saffron, hence why Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world.

To release its colour and to ensure that it's evenly distributed throughout the dish, immerse saffron threads in a little warm water, milk, white wine, olive oil or stock for about 15 minutes before using. Then add the liquid to the dish, during or towards the end of cooking.
Used in dishes such as Spanish paellas, Indian biriyanis, Italian risottos and French bouillabaisse. Saffron is also fantastic infused into a savoury cream sauce, or sweet with saffron infused ice cream or panna cotta.

I love cooking Indian dishes and tend to use a pinch of saffron when I make pilau rice. I decided to give this saffron a try as there is a lot more saffron in this little plastic box than there is in the other pots that I had bought at supermarkets and this one purchase lasted a lot longer. Very nice product. I take it with milk every morning. I soak it in hot milk for 15 minutes and it gives a very nice colour and flavour to it. I really love this product
This is one of the very best Saffron products i have used, i grind half a teaspoon of Saffron in a mortar and pestle and then soak it in a few tablespoons of warm milk before adding to my rice.
We ordered this Saffron for our daily use and especially for Indian sweets and to soak in hot milk. The Saffron is the best quality Saffron we have used. A small pinch of strands are enough for all things.
